Old Head Teachers

The School Memorial Tablet – Roll of Headmasters

This is the panel with all the names of the Head Masters of the Dorking High School and the Dorking County Grammar School. At the top you may read the name of Arthur John Rivett who was the first Head Master of the Grammar School 1935 - 1943.

Old Head Masters

He was followed by Dr Trefor Jones with deputy Miss Winifred Rigby 1943 -1957. Miss Rigby was interim Head between April 1957 and August 1957 before the appointment of Mr E Johnson who was Head between 1957 and 1969. He was followed by Mrs J R Huggins 1969 – 1970 and then by Mr J A L Hamilton 1970 – 1976 when the Grammar School was morphed into Ashcombe School when it merged with the neighbouring Mowbray School.

The Tablet beneath recalls the Heads of the Dorking High School for Boys and the High School for Girls which preceded the Grammar School, itself the product of educational innovation in 1935. These included Mr Roberts and Mr Rivett in the Boys School, and Miss Craven in the Girls School.
